Solve : Using my Modem in bridge mode????

Answer»

My system:  HP dv6-1030us running vista home premium, a Belkin WIRELESS N f5d8236-4 v3, an embarq 660 modem.  I have a desktop connected to my router via wired connection, a desktop on wireless, a brother printer on wireless and my laptop on wireless.

I recently just tried to start USING bit torrent to get some old football games.  I downloaded the program and tried to use it, all APPEARED to be working fine except the download speed was very slow.  After about 3 minutes my Embarq 660 DSL modem would automatically shutdown and reboot.  Once it rebooted the connection would reestablish and run for another COUPLE minutes and then reboot again.  The download speed NEVER got to over 16 kb/s.

I read a couple of other threads that said the solution might be to use my modem in bridge mode.  I even read on how to get it to bridge mode but I need to know what else I might need to do with my router and laptop to be sure it connects to the internet still?  I also need to if using the modem in bridge mode will be the fix for this?

Thanks for any help and input.THe issue sounds to me like less of a software on the machine issue and more of a modem issue.

I'd try talking to your ISP and see if perhaps you need a modem upgrade. Quote from: cgerard on July 19, 2009, 11:58:06 AM

We will not help you pirate anything.  Go buy the game or get lost.
