Solve : virus or corrupted files???

Answer»

I have a Dell Vostro 1510 notebook running windows xp service pak 3 version 2002 & up to DATE trend MICRO security pro antivirus software....

my situation is that I use a neighbors wifi signal(with permission) but I have been having trobule the past couple of months getting online using his signal.....sometimes when I tell it to connect to him(and the signal is thereaccording to my utilty) it doesn't connect....I click on "connect to" again, select his name and it still doesn't connect....this goes on & on(back & forth) sometimes I can eventually get on by playing around with the utility & sometimes I can't.....today my connection icon in the lower left goes from green to yellow & 3 bars to 2 bars & red & back & forth  like its playing a foot dance......my security software does not detect anything & when I try to run Malwarebytes it gives me an error  707

I can connect to my parents connection when I go over to see them  ..but I wonder if a virus could disable you from connecting to your "usuall/frequent" wifi connection or if somehow I have some files that are messed up in the system......I have not tried to take the laptop to the neighbors house to see if it works from their kitchen table as it should...I know there a possibilty that the signal just is the problem but I am confused because I can see it is available thru my utilty windows.....

does anybodyknow whats going on with this??? reinstall malwarebytes. the error is RELATED to a reinstallation

With regards to your wifi drop out, ask your NEIGHBOUR to CHANGE the wireless channels to a stronger signal e.g 1,3, and 11 Quote from: ne0beatsm0rp98 on March 05, 2011, 12:21:35 PM

Wow, a lot of rookies with mal-formed advice today...

The signal idea isn't a bad one, but it won't make the signal stronger, what it will do is, potentially, reduce interference.  Which could be the issue here.

Has your neighbour moved the router, changed the password(s), setup MAC address filtering or done anything else to his/her network recently?
