Solve : Website Speed Question? |
|
Answer» INSTEAD of using a web host which can get slow, or a expensive dedicated server from a host, I PLANNED to run it from home so streaming MPEG files can get faster. I can use YouTube but I have to wait until the end of March to SIGN up because of age restrictions, and some people may block it, like some schools. The ISP I use will get upgraded and it says on the webpage: Quote from http://www.optimum.com/order/boost/I know I can host my own website but I need to know if the speed is the downstream "30MBPS" or the upstream "5MBPS"? If you run a webserver, either from home or for a COMPANY, you should tell.If you ran a website from home, all of your site visitors would experience the 5mbps upload speed you are limited to.Quote from: michaewlewis on October 30, 2009, 10:59:11 AM If you ran a website from home, all of your site visitors would experience the 5mbps upload speed you are limited to.Thanks for the advice. I can stream files but as it gets popular. I now know that my downloading is not affected. If I upload something while my website is visited, uploading will get slow.Maybe I'm not reading your question right, but all your site visitors would be limited to the speeds of their local ISP. The faster your ISP CONNECTION is the less congestion and slow downs your site visitors would see but they will never go any faster than their local ISP's speed limits (you get what you pay for). The wording up to 5mb gives an indication that you may never achieve the 5mb upstream. |
