Answer» I recently bought a Sprint Mobile Broadband aircard for my laptop and tested it at speedtest.net. I got speeds of roughly 500 kbps for both download and upload. Then I let my friend try it and he got 1300 kbps for both.
I run XP, he runs Vista. Neither of us have viruses or SPYWARE of any sort, nor were we running downloads. They both run on 1.66 Ghz. He has 1 gig of RAM, I have half.
So the question I'm posing is, what affects BANDWIDTH? The computer's specs? Defragmentation (I use bittorrent incessantly)? OS? Anything I might not be aware of?
Any insight into how I could GET my computer up to SPEED would be appreciated. At what time of the day did you and your friend try? Did you try them both on the same network? Did you run the test several times?
If you're running any file sharing PROGRAMS while testing, your speed results is naturally going to be lower than someone who doesn't run any file sharing programs and takes the same test.
