Solve : What is DD-WRT? What can it do.?

Answer»

DD-WRT MAY help you solve a wireless connectivity issue.
Here is some information you may want to investigate.

DD-WRT is a Linux-based firmware for several wireless routers, most notably the Linksys...
DD-WRT INCLUDES such features as support for the Kai network, daemon-based services, IPv6, Wireless Distribution System, RADIUS, advanced quality of service, radio output power control...

This does NOT mean you have to use Linux.
Instead, this may be what  you need if you have trouble with 64 bit systems that do not support the wireless adapters you have. A DD-WRT device can be a wireless router to connect through Ethernet and serve as a wireless network bridge. Wireless without wireless hardware drivers. (Of course, you already have Ethernet drivers. That is seldom a problem with 64 bit OS.)

Here is a LIST of routers that can do DD-WRT. MANY are vainly cheap on the used market. Maybe you have one in your hope chest.

Is this information helpful?
DD-WRT is a firmware replacement for some models of router.

I don't see how it's supposed to magically make wireless adapters without 64-bit drivers work. Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 16, 2011, 09:17:38 AM

Think about it.

OK. let's reason it out here.

A network adapter is a device used to access an external network connection. Relevant in this case, wireless adapters. A wireless adapter in many cases will connect to an access point (a router). Note however that no connection can be made in the first place without drivers.

Therefore, that MEANS that changing the firmware on the router isn't going to do a  thing to make wireless adapters work without drivers. The very idea is absurd (not DD-WRT).

An analogy:

Hey, I got this new car firmware you can install in your car, and it makes all passing red cars blue instead! Same Idea.
