Answer» Hi everyone First of all, let me say thank you to those of you who gave my info on adding a second HD to my Dell, my computer has been running fine ever since, I'm quite impressed. Now I have another problem I NEED help with, I was given an HP Pavillion n5310 laptop for free, because it had a dead HD, I replaced the hard drive and it fires up nicely, now, the problem I have is - I'm using a Westell 327 ethernet for the Dell, the Westell is also wireless, I have a Netgear WG511T card in the laptop, it is detecting the SIGNAL from the Westell, but is'nt communicating with it, the quesstion I have is - where can I find all the proper proxy's and ADDRESSING's to put in the laptop to get it to link it up ?. Thank you very much for any help you can give. William

BTW, The HP uses Windows MEAre the workgroups of all machines the same? THat is the place to start. If there is a router this should not be a problem. You didn't say if you had one, but if not, this isn't going to work.Quote from: mtnbkr01201 on May 06, 2007, 05:37:43 PM Hi everyone First of all, let me say thank you to those of you who gave my info on adding a second HD to my Dell, my computer has been running fine ever since, I'm quite impressed. I had a similar problem at work when installing a hub. It was on an XP machine though, so I don't know if this is going to help, but the basic fix was:
Make sure the IP's are assigned automatically.
Control Panel, Network Connections, right click, PROPERTIES, TCP/IP Check box, properties button, Obtain IP Automatically, Obtain DNS server Automatically, OK, OK
Did that work? No? Carry on (this was how I got walked-through earlier today from the help-desk chap, if it helps great if not...meh.)
right click the network connection, disable, wait a bit (10 seconds), enable,
Working YET? No, read on...
Open your internet browser, let's say IE: tools, internet options, connections tab, never dial a connection, advanced tab, restore defaults, apply, ok
Firefox works similarly. Did this help?Quote from: Sid on May 09, 2007, 04:50:31 PMQuote from: mtnbkr01201 on May 06, 2007, 05:37:43 PMHi everyone First of all, let me say thank you to those of you who gave my info on adding a second HD to my Dell, my computer has been running fine ever since, I'm quite impressed. Thank you very kindly for all the help, well - would you beleave it turned out to be somthing so simple that I could kick myself, after working on the laptop for more then three weeks making sure all the addressings and proxys were right, it was suggested I type in my IP in the http line, this brought up all the info on my 'Westel 357 Router, and when I looked over all the data, I noticed one set of numbers I had never seen before, it was the WEP Key number, I entered that number and my laptop instantly connected to the net, live and learn. I hope this information helps others whwo may have a similar problem. Thank you again everyone. William
