Answer» dear sirs I am confused, I am looking for a reliable wifi hotspot security APP that will keep the packet sniffers at bay, I heard that hotspot shield was not that good, is there any software apps that can protect me at hotspots that is good ?you need a firewall and to use encryption
I use a firewall but what program can I use for encryption?Depends on what kind of encryption your looking for. The encryption provided by wireless routers for connectivity (WPA2 recommended) will make it so any packets of yours sniffed over the waves are unreadable. Provided you are using a good password. However, this won't stop a man-in-the-middle attack if someone has already compromised the network. For that you'd need something like SSH or a VPN to encrypt the DATA in the transport PROCESS. But, if the MiTM knows what he's doing that won't make a difference either.can you recommend a good vpn software that I can use at hotspot areas?I've always USED SSH and Hamachi. But since Hamachi got bought out my LogMeIn the free version isn't what it used to be.
I'd suggest seeing if your home router is capable of doing some sort of VPN (IPSec, PPTP, or the like) and using that.mainly what I am looking for is something to use at hotspots that is secure that is what I need. Most hotspots that use a password and login are having you connect using a low level encryption. If you can just logon without them giving you a login then that would be a unsecurted connection....most of the time.
What are you trying to do? What are you trying to protcet yourself from?
packet sniffers and such
