Solve : Windows 7 PC, Vista laptop?

Answer»

Hey all,
Trying to create a shared folder between my PC whic is RUNNING windows 7, and my Laptop which is Vista, but i'm totally lost. advice is most welcome. Not much to it:

If this tutorial doesn't cut it.... Look around some more

http://www.ehow.com/how_6674296_share-folders-windows-7.htmlHere are some Microsoft pages explaining how to share files:
Windows Vista: File sharing essentials and Share files with someone
Windows 7: File sharing essentials and Share files with someone

This is how I have set up network SHARES in Windows 7...

  • Right-click the folder to share and click "Properties".
  • Click the "Sharing" tab and click the "Advanced Sharing..."
  • Check the "Share this folder" box, set the "Share name".
  • Click the "Permissions" BUTTON and set the permissions for particular users or groups.
  • Click "OK" on the windows that were opened and the network share will be set.

I have not set file sharing in Vista, but it should be very similar.  I HOPE this sets you on the right track.  Let us know if you have any other questions.

Edit: Ah, you beat me to the post button, joy division. If my quickie post doesn't cut it I'm sure yours will, which is probably more thorough.  both tutorials look great, but i think they're running on the assumption that the PC and laptop are already networked, which they are not. i apologize for no being more clear in the initial post. Are both computers accessing the Internet through a router?Wanna see a great video?

Networking home computers running different versions of Windowsimportance in GETTING a network is that you are using the same connection and router... then activate share folder you want to share..
