Solve : Windows Xp but no internet??

Answer»

I'm sorta COMPUTER savvy and then I'm not so go easy on me.

I reinstalled xp on my old computer and I believe it has service pack 2 on it.

I wanted internet on it so got an ethernet cable and plugged it into the router and then into the back of my pc for a wired connection.

The little computer icon popped up down there saying I was connected and when I go into network connections, I see one network there that SAYS 1394 Connection Connected, firewalled, 1394 net Adapter.

When I click on internet explorer, it simple just says " No connection to the internet is currently available" and asks if I want to work offline or try again.

So here is my question:

How do I MAKE the internet work on it?

BTW,  If this helps I go into device manager and under my network adapters, theres an Other devices expansion thing and when I expand it, a whole bunch of ? (yellow question marks) appear down there that say:

Ethernet controller
hpphotsmart 7150
PCI device
PCI simple communications Controller
SM bus controller
Video Controller (VGA compatible)

It says the drivers are not installed...so is that ethernet controller the PROBLEM to this or what.
I really need help from people that know about this stuff cause I'm at a lose.

ThanksFirst, do the other computers connected to the router connect to the internet OK?

The reference to 1394 is a firewire, not firewall, connection and it is not ethernet compatible.  Generally, it is used for cameras and such.  Personally, I've never seen firewire used for internet connectivity so I don't know why it is listed under network connection but it needs to be changed to ethernet.Your list of missing drivers indicates, that you need to INSTALL chipset driver first. After you installed the OS and like Broni stated the Chipset driver you will need to install the drivers for the hardware on the system (sound, video, NIC, ect...).
