I have a dell inspiron 2500 system operating system is 2000 professional . I download the driver for the Linksys wireless -G notebook adapter wpc54g. After downloading I OPEN it up and under the ssid it shows searching and it does not go anywhere. There is a refesh bottom and nothing goes anyway or the connect button nothing. There also a manual setup goes nowhere. When I exit it goes into to a link information and says no association with access point. also says adapter is inactive . the lights come on on the adapter. I a newbie not SURE .under the device manage network adapters it show the wireless g notebook and says the device is WORKING properly. any idea's to get this to work. Thank youAre using Windows 2000?
Some wireless adapters do not work with Windows 2000.
Does the adapter work OK on your XP system?
it has windows 2000 professional also windows 95 . I am thinking of installing windows xp on this more friendly.Inspiron 2500 is Pentium III, circa 2003. Your Linksys WPC54G came in different hardware versions. Make sure you get the correct driver for the version you have. Win2k does not have WiFi capability built-in, it would need more than the Linksys Driver, it needs the Linksys software, too. WinXP has WiFi but installing the software will turn it off.
http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/adapters/WPC54Gthank you . I will try that.downloaded the wireless adapter. I am having problem connecting to the internet. When I open the adapter program it shows signal strength but it says you are connected to a access point but internet cannot be found.I go to my internet connection and it shows connection and when I open the properties up it shows the connecting using this wireless adapter. In the componets check are used by this connection are

under the authentication
enable network access control using IEEE 802.1x is checked
eap type smart card or other certificate under the properties there is nothing checked.

the authenticate as computer when computer information is available is checked other option not checked is authenticate as guest when user or computer information is available.

not sure where to go from here to be able to connect to the internet .
