Solve : Wireless asking for Security Key when I have secuity disabled? |
|
Answer» Hi, we have 2 laptops in our home. One is slightly older, I had a new hard drive and WINDOWS reinstalled over the weekend. Its great, runs way faster but now when I try to connect it to our wireless it is asking for a security key to connect to our linksys. We do not have it set up to need a security key. I double checked with my other computer, went to the linksys settings page, and it still shows we have wireless security disabled and that laptop is connected just fine. What gives? Ive gotta get this other laptop connected again, its my sons, he's drivin me nuts about it! Yes its the same one, the list of available networks is the same on both computers. It just says its an open network on this computer and the same one is security enabled on the other one. Says (WPA2) on the one that wont connect while it doesnt say that on the other if that means anything. That laptop always connected fine before. Just figures, now that its got a new hard drive and 90% faster, it wont connect. Is there just the one network in both lists? It SEEMS ODD that one machine would pick it up as unsecured, and another as WPA2 secured. Have you tried MOVING the laptop closer to the wireless access point? Its pretty close. Now it says "Validating Identity" and a pop up window says "We could not locate the certificate to validate your identity". Whatever that means. I just contacted linksys and they wouldnt help me because my router model wasnt new enough. Great.Never mind! I went into properties of the lilnksys signal and it said IEEE 802.1x was enabled. I disabled it and now it works fine! Thanks for tryin! |
