Solve : Wireless Internet Connection? |
|
Answer» Our wireless internet connection connects 2 computers to the internet, one is a PC and the other is a notebook. The PC stays maxed out @ 54Mbps and the newer notebook ranges in speeds while in one location 24mbps - 54mbps. Any suggestions for the notebook? Thanks, KellyKelly... I'm assuming when you talk about the 2 computers being connected to your wireless router that one (the PC) is hardwired to the wireless router, while the notebook is connecting wirelessly to the router. Here's the problem... Depending on the router and its signal...you may experience different connection speeds... What is the make and model of your router? If you don't have a very good signal...this COULD be due to the location of the router, interfernece from other wireless devices...phone, etc. A decent router with a wide range can help improve your signal...boosting the speed at which you connect.A high gain directional antenna might solve your problem. The router is a LINKSYS-G 2.4Ghtz 54Mbps Model WRT54G Even while in the same room as the router or in the room with the other wireless PC the speed fluxuates, right now it reads 24Mbps signal strength Excellent. Some good reading: HTTP://www.wikihow.com/Maximize-the-Speed-of-Your-Internet-ConnectionSince it is not the internet connection but LAN connection, the OP has a problem at his end. If the router is set to automatically select the speed, it will set it at the speed that gives the best connection. This is often determined by the wireless device with the lowest speed. There is also the possibility that the wireless network is not secure and that other wireless users in the OP's area are stealing bandwidth...THUS slowing the connection speed. If you haven't yet secured your wireless network, follow the directions included in your user's MANUAL in order to do so... If at all possible log into your router's settings page and set the encryption to WAP...more secure than WEP...and create a network password in order to secure it from others in your area who may be acquiring your WiFi connection. It is a secured wireless network. But why would it fluxuate and the wireless PC not? |
