Solve : Wireless or Not Wireless??

Answer»

Hey Guys

My Aunt and Uncle bought a computer about a year and half / 2 years ago, and they are thinking of getting wireless internet on it - however they dont know if the wireless would work on the computer - would this work? It will be through a BT Home Hub - I dont know if this site is based in the UK, but if it is, you will all know what im tlaking about.

What I want to know is if a computer which was bought 2 years ago likely to have wireless capabilities

Thanks for your help in advance,

Hey

I will TRY and get some info on that computer for you guys. About the Wireless router, according to BT, the Home Hub is a wireless router. I have found a few links which might help - could you tell me if I will still need a wireless router :

http://www.frequencycast.co.uk/homehub.html and BT's website on their wireless home hub is here - http://www.homehub.bt.com

Thank you for your help in advance,

Ryanyeah you need to get a wireless card for the computer. if BT are going to send you a router thats great but the PC can't receive a wireless signal without a wireless card. at the minute i am using ASUS V2 - Network adaptor - PCI - 802.11b, 802.11g i got it for about £25 but i have seen cheaper ones and far more expensive one too. USB WLAN cards is another WAY i suppose. Wireless networks can be tricky if you don't have all the right information OK half the battle is won...that is a wireless router . So all you need now for their machine would be a PCI wireless network card...i recommend D-Link or Lynksis but NETGEAR is fine also.

This May Help As Well...
