Digestive enzymes are hydrolytic enzymes that breaks down the complex substances present in the food to simpler and soluble substances that are readily absorbed by the body. 

e.g., Protein + Enzyme → Peptones + Enzyme → Peptides + Enzyme → Amino acid.  

Thus, the digestive enzymes helps in the digestion of complex foods such as carbohydrates, proteins, etc.
