State the principle of an electric generator. Write any two differences between electric motors and electric generators. |

Answer» An electric generator works on the principle of electromagnetic induction when, a closed coil is rotated in a uniform magnetic field with its axis perpendicular to the direction of the field. The magnetic field lines passing through the coil changes and induce potential differences. Hence a current is set up in it. Electric motor: (i) It converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, (ii) It works on the principle of magnetic field of electric current. Electric generator: (i) It converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. (ii) It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. |
