The sum of the income of A and C is equal to the income of both B and D. A, earns half of the sum of B’s and D’s income. 1. Which of the following statement is false? (1) A’s income is more than B’s (2) B’s income is more than D’s (3) C’s income is more than D’s (4) All are right 2. Who has the highest income? (1) A (2) B (3) C (4) D

Answer»

1. (1) A’s income is more than B’s / (4) All are right

A + B > C + D ……(i)

A + C = B + D ……(ii)

A = B + D / 2 , so from (ii) we get C = B + D / 2 = A

Substituting A and C in (i) we get B > D

So, B > C = A and B > D and B > A

B > A = C > D. here A’s income is less than B

If option (1) is false then option(4) must be false

2. (2) B

A + B > C + D ……(i)

A + C = B + D ……(ii)

A = B + D / 2 , so from (ii) we get C = B + D / 2 = A

Substituting A and C in (i) we get B > D

So, B > C = A and B > D and B > A

B > A = C > D. B’s income is the highest.
