Let the current age of the person be x years.

His age 2 years from now = x + 2 years

His age 10 years ago = (x – 10) years

Average of his current age and his age 10 years ago = (x + x – 10)/2 = (2x – 10)/2 = x – 5

According to the question,

⇒ x + 2 = 2 × (x – 5)

⇒ x + 2 = 2x – 10

⇒ 2x – x = 10 + 2
