BARCHAN dunes are crescentic dunes with a slipface and two horns that point downwind (see Chapter 11.11). They are associated with areas where there is a single dominant wind-direction and limited sand supply. BARCHANS are the SIMPLEST type of sand dune and they were one of the first forms to be investigated.
