The fundamental frequency of a closed pipe is 293 Hz when the air in it is at a temperature of 20°C. What will be the fundamental frequency when the temperature changes to 22°C? |
|
Answer» The fundamental frequency of the closed organ pipe at 20°C = ν₀ and at 22°C = ν₁. Since the frequency is proportional to the speed of sound V and the speed of sound is proportional to the square root of the temperature, hence ν₀/ν₁ =√(T₀/T₁) Given ν₀ = 293 Hz, T₀ = 273+20 =293 K, T₁ = 273+22 =295 K. →293/ν₁ = √(293/295) →ν₁ = 293*√(295/293) =√(295*293) =294 Hz |
