“The Tiger and the Deer” is one of the most beautiful poems of Sri Aurobindo. It · presents beautifully the balanced picture of Nature which can be seen in the duality of its creation. Nature is both peaceful and horrific at the same time. There exists in it a sharp contrast of good and evil, innocence and cruelty, serene and bloody and nector and poison. The tiger and the deer simply represent these two contrasting aspects. They fulfil Nature’s scheme of the perpetuation of life wherein life comes after death. Thus, both poison and nector are essential for the existence of life.

यह कवि श्री अरबिन्द की सबसे सुन्दर कविताओं में से एक है। यह अच्छी तरह से प्रकृति की सन्तुलितं तस्वीर प्रस्तुत करती है जो इसकी सृष्टि के दोहरेपन में देखा जा सकता है। प्रकृति शान्त भी है और साथ ही भयानक भी। इसमें अच्छाई और बुराई, निर्दोषता और क्रूरता, शांति और खुखारता तथा अमृत और विष दोनों का अस्तित्व है। चीता और हिरन इसके विरोधी पहलुओं के प्रतिनिधि मात्र हैं। वे प्रकृति की जीवन की निरन्तरता की योजना को पूरा करते हैं जिसमें मृत्यु के बाद जीवन आता है। इस प्रकार, विष और अमृत दोनों जीवन के अस्तित्व के लिये आवश्यक हैं।
