The side of the square is increased by 20% then what is the % change in its area?1. 54%2. 34%3. 52%4. 44%

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 4 : 44%

Given:

Increase in side = 20%

Formula used:

Area of the square = side2

Concept used:

All the sides of the square is equal

Calculation:

Let the side of the square be l

Area of the square = l2

After 20% increase,

Side of the square = l + 20% of l = 1.2 l

New area of the square = (1.2 l)2 = 1.44 l2

Increase in the area of the square = 1.44 l2 l2 = 0.44 l2

Percentage increase in the area = (0.44 l2)/l2 × 100 = 44%

∴ The % increase in the area is 44%
