Amitav Ghosh was bom in Calcutta on July 11, 1956, in Bengali Hindu family to Lieutenant Colonel Shailendra Ghosh, a retired officer of the preindependence Indian army and was educated at the Doon school, St. Stephen’s college, New Delhi.
