- The Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh while addressing MPs in a consultative committee meeting in New Delhi in March 2018 stated that millet cultivation has dwindled due to change in dietary habits and unavailability of millets in the country.
- As a result of this change in dietary habits and unavailability of millets, level of nutrients like proteins, Vitamin-A, iron, and iodine fell in women and children in the country.
- In order to improve the consumption of nutrients in women and children, a special focus on millets is given under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) .
