Three resistance 5,10and 15 are connected in parallel, find the effective resistance of the circuit

Answer»

ANSWER:

The STRAIGHT forward formula for RESISTANCES in parallel is 1/Rp=1/R1+1/R2+1/R3.

But let me TELL you a shortcut to calculate resistances in parallel. Always check first if the resistances are multiples like here 5,10,15 we can spot multiples of 5.

So the method is, 10 is in parallel with 10/2 so the equivalent will be 10/3(When ‘n’ is in parallel with ‘n/x the resultant is n/x+1. Now you can evaluate 10/3 and the 15 OHM resistance . Trust me this method reduces lot of time in calculations when you are finding out the equivalent resistance of a huge electrical network. You can try out this method orally with sufficient practice without putting pen to paper.
