Answer» Trachea is an air passage to your lungs, esophagus is a food passage to your stomach. Food aspirated into your lungs can result in choking, or pneumonia. A properly functioning epiglottis closes when one swallows to keep food from going into the trachea. Also known as the windpipe, the trachea is prevented from collapsing by cartilaginous rings that resemble the rings in vacuum cleaner hoses. |
