As more families moved in, I soonmade friends with other boys of my age. We all came from differentbackgrounds and went to different schools, but we were very closeand enjoyed many adventures and good times together. Holidays andother festive occasions were great fun as we looked forward to the“Eidi” from our elders: the money would be pooled to go and see thelatest action film! Today, twenty years later we are still in touch,although we have moved to other parts of the city and even thecountry. We are united by our common childhood and its happymemories, for these are deeper and stronger ties than the differencesthat were superficial and did not matter.
