The division of the anthropoids into\xa0two main groups\xa0– the Platyrrhini (New World monkeys) and the Catarrhini (Old World monkeys.\xa0Today, there are eight extant genera of hominoids. They are the\xa0four\xa0genera in the family Hominidae, namely Homo, Pan, Gorilla, and Pongo; plus\xa0four\xa0genera in the family Hylobatidae (gibbons): Hylobates, Hoolock, Nomascus and Symphalangus.\xa0Hominids\xa0have evolved from\xa0hominoids\xa0: 1)Hominoids\xa0have a smaller brain.\xa0Hominids\xa0have a bigger brain. 2)Hominoids\xa0are quadrupeds , walk on all fours, but with flexible forelimbs.\xa0Hominids,by\xa0contrast, have an upright posture and biped locomotion ,walk on two feet. | |
