Two numbers are in the ratio 2:3 if each number is increased by 15 , the ratio become 7:8. Then the sum of the given number is

Answer»

Let numbers are 2x & 3x.

\((2x + 15):(3x + 15) = 7:8\)

⇒ \(\frac{2x + 15}{3x + 15} = \frac 78\)

⇒ \(16 x + 120 = 21x + 105\)

⇒ \(5x = 120-105\)

⇒ \(5x = 15\)

⇒ \(x = 3\)

∴ Numbers are 6, 9

∴ Sum of numbers = 6 + 9 = 15
