Two platinum electrides are dipped in an aqueous solution of copper sulphate blue in colour. A current is passed through it. (a) What will happen on the two electrodes ? (b) What will happen to the colour of the solution ? (c ) Predict the nature of the solution left in the electrolytic cell. |
|
Answer» Solution :(a) Copper will be DEPOSITED on the cathode i.e., the electrode connected to the negative terminal. Oxygen GAS `(O_(2))` will evolve at the anode. (B) The blue colour of the solution will slowly disappear and it will become colourless. (C ) The solution left in the ELECTROLYTIC cell will be acidic (aqueous solution of `H_(2)SO_(4)`).
