water has maximum density at 4 *C . why? |
Answer» When temp.raise from0*c to 4*c then hydrogen bonds start collapsing &thus molecules start to coming together that result in decrease of volume &hence increase in density. This happens up to 277k or 4*c after increase in volume of water becomes much more than decrease in volume due to breaking of H-bond. Thus after 4*c there is net increase in volume which means decrease in density. Hence density of water is maximum at 4*c. | |
