(b) Transition Elements: The elements in which the last electron enters in one of the inner-d orbitals are called transition elements. These elements belong (c) Lanthanoids and Actinoids: The elements of 4f series [i.e. from Ce (Z = 58) to Lu (Z = 71)] are called lanthanoids and the elements of 5f series [i.e. from Th (Z = 90) to Lr (Z = 103)] are called actinoids. These elements belong to f-block elements in the modern periodic table which lie at the bottom of the periodic table.
