Answer» Cytochromes are heme-containing proteins.Three varieties are recognised, cytochromes a , cytochromes b and cytochromes c.Other than these three cytochromes many other cytochromes exist.Cytochromes function as electron relays, exploiting the switching of the iron centres from ferrous (Fe(ll)) to ferric (Fe(lll)).
