Following are the characteristics of a good table : 

(a) Heading: Headings should generally be written in the singular form. For example, in the columns indicating goods, the word ‘good’ should be used. 

(b) Abbreviations: Use of abbreviations should be avoided in the heading or sub-heading of the table. 

(c) Footnote: Footnote should be given, only if needed. 

(d) Total in the table: sub-totals of the items must be given at the end of each row.
