| Answer» Ethers are derivatives of hydrocarbons in which a hydrogen atom is replaced by an alkoxy `(-OR)` or an aryloxy `(-OAr)` group. Classification : (i) Simple of symmetrical ethers : The ethers, in which both the alkyl or aryl groups attached to oxygen atom are same, e.g., `CH_(3)-O-CH_(3)` Dimethyl ether. (ii) Mixed or unsymmetrical ethers : The ethers in which two alkyl or groups attached to oxygen atom are different `CH_(3)-O-C_(2)H_(5)` ethyl methyl ether. | |
