Meaning — Memorandum in short is known as Memo. Memorandum means a note to assist memory. 

Purpose — Memo is used for internal communication between managers and subordinates. 

It is not used outside the organisation. 

Memo is used- 

• to issue instructions to the staff members. 

• to give / seek suggestions from the employees. 

• to communicate policy matters and changes to the staff members. 

• to seek explanation from an employee to explain his conduct. 

• to intimate grant of permission to do something. 

• to intimate grant of permission to withhold something.
