What are the advantages and limitations of J.J.Thomson\'s model of an atom ? |
|
Answer» Advantages of J.J Thomson’s modelAn atom consists of positively charged sphere and the electrons are embedded in it. So mass of the atom is assumed to be uniformly distributed. The negative and positive charges are equal in magnitude. Hence, this model was able to explain the overall neutrality of an atom. The limitations of J.J Thomson’s model of an atom are following:(a) It could not explain the result of the scattering experiment performed by Rutherford.(b) It did not have any experimental evidence in its support. Limitations of j.j Thomsons model of an atom: His model can\'t explain the Rutherford\'s alpha scattering particle experiment . Which led the discovery of nucleus . |
