What are the factors which influence the adsorption of a gas on a solid ? |
|
Answer» Solution :Lack of gas : Gases like `NH_(3), HCl` which can easily liquified are adsorbed in more PROPORTION. While the permanent gases like `H_(2), O_(2), N,` etc. Which can not easily liquified are adsorbed in less proportion because `NH_(3) and HCl` has strong van der Waals. FORCES than `H_(2) and O_(2)` which helps to liquified easily. Surface area of solid substance : As more the surface area of adsorbent as more gas is adsorbed on its surface. The effect of temperature : Adsorption is a exothermic reaction. THUS, as per Le-Chatelier.s theory the adsorption decrease with the increase in temperature. Effect of PRESSURE : Adsorption is a reversible PROCESS and its increases with the increase in pressure. |
