Limestone is mainly calcium carbonate(CaCo3), when it is heated it is decomposed in calcium oxide(cao) and cabon dioxide(Co2).It is a valuable natural resource used in many things are listed below....

1.for making cement-heated with clay in kiln.

(a).concrete-mixed with sand, water and crushed rock.

(b).mortar-mixed with sand and water.

2. In glass making industry-heated with sand and soda(sodium bicarbonate).

3. To neutralize exess acidity-Limestone, quicklime and slaked lime are all used to neutralise excess acidity - which may be caused by acid rain - in lakes and in soils.

4. Limestone can be used as building material and in manufacturing of iron.

5. It is the raw material of making quicklime and slacked lime.

States producing limestone are Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.
