What are transgenic bacteria? Illustrate using example.

Transgenic bacteria – Bacteria that have had their DNA manipulated to possess and express an extra (foreign) gene are known as transgenic bacteria. 

Example – The bacteria E.coli is a transgenic bacteria used to produce insulin to cure diabetes. Insulin molecule is made up of two peptide chains : Chain A and Chain B. The two DNA sequences corresponding to A & B, chains of human insulin are prepared thorugh genetic engineering.
