Mohammed Zaheeruddin Babar was, like other Central Asian rulers,coveted the enormous wealth of the Indian sub-continent. In the medieval period, retaining the loyalty of the army and the means to conduct military campaigns were POSSIBLE only if the ruler possessed adequate wealth. According to Abul Fazal, who was one of the nine Navaratnas in Akbar's COURT, for Babar, the REVENUE from Kabul which he had conquered in the course of his campaigns was insufficient. Hence the Indian military campaign
