what decides the rainfall pattern |
|
Answer» Factors affecting rainfal of a place are:The pressure and the wind system of an area depend on the latitude and altitude of the place. Thus it influences the temperature and rainfall pattern.Relief, mountains also plays a major role in bringing rainfall,if they are high enough and lie in the path of rain-bearing winds. The leeward side of mountains remains relatively dry.\xa0 Landforms, like mountains, plateaus, etc. affect rainfall. Orographic condensation occurs as moist air is pushed up the rain side of a landform. On the other side, arid conditions prevail because the moisture has been squeezed out on the rain side. High pressure and low pressure zones also affect rainfall. There’s a permanent zone of descending air parked off the West coast of California. Rain needs moisture and ascending air to condense, so descending air also causes arid conditions. And something called continentality can cause arid zones — the farther an area is from the edge of a continent, the more likely it will be arid. In the US. you can see this in the Western half of the continent. Our Eastern half benefits from Eastern winds, ascending air, and plenty of moisture. |
