Answer» Bacteria and fungi are get energy by breakdown of dead plants and animals. So, they are called decomposers. They help in the cycling of materials in the environment. If there were no decomposers the dead and waste materials remains on earth. The nutrients would not be replenished. Natural enrichment of the soil cannot takes place. Because of the dead organisms remain on earth, the existence of life on earth would have been impossible.
