Answer» Knowledge Area:Quality Management Gold plating is a common phenomenon observed during execution. The development team may work on delivering more than what has been ASKED for or what is actually needed. The general thought behind gold plating is that it will MAKE the customer feel happy SINCE we are delivering more. But in the contrast a matured customer will not be happy. Instead may have doubts on our management CAPABILITY as to how the team is able or willing to deliver more. In addition to this, gold plating if done, will lead to scope creep, which in turn will IMPACT the project schedule and cost. The whole plan can go awry. Hence it is highly recommended that the PM should be aware about this phenomenon and tendency of the team, and should discourage and prevent gold plating in a project scenario. |
