What is digestion? |
Answer» Breaking down of complex substances or food into simpler forms with the help of various digestive organs. Digestion is the process in which the ingested food is broken down to simpler substances as it passes through the alimentary canal.The alimentary canal is made up of: mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine.When the food is ingested, it mixes with the saliva in the mouth and passes towards the oesophagus which takes it to stomach. stomach has a mixture of digestive juices like hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes which help digest the food. then food moves to small intestine which receives enzymes from liver amd helps in further digestion. then food moves to large intestine where villi absorbs essential nutrients. |
