What is Doldrum? |
|
Answer» The equatorial belt which extends from the equator to 5° latitude in both the hemispheres. In this belt, due to high temperature throughout the year, air pressure is less. The centrifugal force has the most effect on this belt. The surface horizontal winds do not blow in this belt, but because of high temperature, the air lightens and rises upwards and the convection currents are created. Therefore, this belt is also called belt of calm or Doldrum Belt. |
