what is Electronegativity: |
|
Answer» It is the ability of an atom to attract a shared pairs of electrons towards itself. If the atoms forming a covalent bond have different electronegativities, the atom with higher electronegativity pulls the shared pair of electrons towards itself. Thus, the atom with the higher electronegativity develops a partial negative charge and the atom with the lower electronegative develops a partial positive charge. This bond with some polarity is called polar covalent bond. |
