What is famiy? |
| Answer» In\xa0biology, a\xa0family\xa0is a taxonomic rank, or a taxon at that rank. Each\xa0family\xa0contains one or more genera. The next important rank is that of order. Usually, the name of the\xa0family\xa0ends with a "idae" for animals, and "aceae" for plants.\xa0Family\xa0is, in turn, more specific. Some\xa0families\xa0in the order Carnivora, for\xa0example, are Canidae (dogs, wolves, foxes), Felidae (cats), Mephitidae (skunks), and Ursidae (bears). There are 12 total\xa0families\xa0in the order Carnivora. | |
