Answer» International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses [ICTV] regulates the norms of classification and nomenclature of viruses. The ICTV has only three hierarchial levels, The family, Genus, and Species. The family names end with the 'suffix viridae' while the Genus name ends with virus and the Species names are common English expressions . Viruses are named after the disease they cause. Eg : Polio virus.
