1.

What is local time? Estimate the time at the following longitudes assuming the greenwich mean time as 10 am. (i) 45° East longitude(ii) 30° West longitude

Answer»

Local time can be defined as the time based on the meridian through a particular place in contrast to that of the time zone with in which the place is located.

45° E = 45 x 4 = 180 minutes i.e, 3 hours 00 minutes

Time at Greenwich is 10:00 a.m., so, time on 45° E is

10 + 3 hours = 1: 00 p.m. or 1300 hrs

Similarly, in case of 30° W, we have to subtract the time :

10 – 2 hrs = 8:00 a.m.
