What is metamorphic rock |
Answer» Metamorphic rocks\xa0are formed from other\xa0rocks\xa0that are changed because of heat or pressure. They are not made from molten\xa0rock\xa0–\xa0rocks\xa0that do melt form igneous\xa0rocks\xa0instead. Earth movements can cause\xa0rocks\xa0to be deeply buried or squeezed. As a result, the\xa0rocks\xa0are heated and put under great pressure.\xa0Rock\xa0that was once one form of\xa0rock\xa0but has changed to another under the influence of heat, pressure, or some other agent without passing through a liquid phase.\xa0Metamorphic rocks\xa0were once igneous or sedimentary\xa0rocks, but have been changed (metamorphosed) as a result of intense heat and/or pressure within the Earth\'s crust. They are crystalline and often have a “squashed” (foliated or banded) texture. | |
